I am clear and firm in my answer: Based on 20 years of experience, there is no comparison between Wamp and Haslam.

Quite simply, Wamp has the vision, the energy and the leadership abilities we need in our next governor, and Haslam does not.

On the heels of a major endorsement from Tennessee gun rights advocate Ronnie Barrett, CEO of Barrett Firearms, Republican Zach Wamp announced today additional support from grassroots leaders in the sportsmen and 2nd Amendment community in his bid for governor.

Minuteman Project Founder and President Jim Gilchrist, the nation’s leading grassroots activist on the issue of immigration reform and border security, announced today that he is endorsing Congressman Zach Wamp in his bid for Governor of Tennessee. Gilchrist cited Wamp’s strong record on securing our borders, denying illegals any form of amnesty, and cracking down on taxpayer funded benefits that attract illegals to the United States. Polls show that immigration reform and border security remains one of the top issues facing voters of the state of Tennessee in the upcoming August 5 Republican Primary.

We know of no issue on which Rep. Wamp’s political positions are not constructive. His conservative views should be popular and beneficial for all Tennesseans.

We are fortunate to have such a fine array of candidates for governor in Congressman Wamp, Mayor Haslam and Speaker Ramsey. We believe Rep. Wamp’s extensive experience in Washington on so many issues and his sound principles recommend him for nomination for governor Aug. 5 — and overwhelming election in November.

One of the major new issues that has arisen in recent months centers around a law from another state, he said. Arizona’s new law on illegal immigration has been a major topic among voters.

Wamp said he supports initiatives to pass a similar law in Tennessee; the statute would allow Tennessee law enforcement officers to detain and remove people who are discovered to be in the country illegally.

“I could not be more encouraged right now than the position we have,” Wamp said. “All across the state, our numbers are really strong. The television campaign Tennesseans are going to see from me in June is compelling, positive and all about the future of our state. I’m real excited about the next 48 days.”

Zach Wamp, Republican candidate for Governor, was joined today by Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America, to talk about Volkswagen’s new auto assembly plant in Chattanooga and Wamp’s plans to launch a new “production agenda” as Tennessee’s next governor to move the state from third to first in automotive manufacturing.

“You can talk about Race to the Top and the Tennessee Diploma Project, but let me tell you, unless we improve early childhood reading, that’s not going to work,” Wamp, a Republican candidate for governor, said. “You can raise standards for 8th grade teachers, but if 40 percent of their students are reading at 4th grade levels or lower, they’re not going to meet those standards.”
